Prof. Young-Ki Paik (Korea) met Drs. Akira Tsugita (Japan) and his associates in NEC, Tsukuba, Japan and proposed establishment of AOHUPO. Both country members agreed upon invitation of Prof. Richard J. Simpson as an inaugural members of AOHUPO, and declared formation of AOHUPO.

"Announcement for the Foundation of Asian and Oceania Human Proteome Organization (AOHUPO) "
To promote and coordinate the efforts of the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) in Asian and Oceania countries, the HUPO Council members of Australia (Richard Simpson, Joint Protein Structure Laboratory, Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research / Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research), Japan (Akira Tsugita, NEC Lab) and Korea (Young-Ki Paik, Yonsei Proteome Research Center) have established an Asian and Oceania satellite of HUPO (AOHUPO, as of June 7, 2001. The three inaugural council members of AOHUPO now jointly invite any scientists from Asian and Oceania countries who are actively working in the area of proteomics research to become a member of AOHUPO. The first Inaugural Meeting of AOHUPO will be held
at the International Proteomics Symposium (Proteomics in Human Disease"), in Seoul, Korea, in March 2002.
